1. What is a tandem?
A - tandem is a bicycle built for 2 riders. We consider trail-a-bike
type things tandems as well.
2.
How does the post race transportation work?
A - After you finish the race in
Ancaster you store your bike in the secure bike corral. You can
retrieve your bag of clothes from the Baggage Transfer Truck, get
changed and take the bus back to the Start line in Paris or St. George.
Buses will leave every 1/2 hour from the Ancaster Community Centre from
1pm to 3:30pm. Post race transport is Free.
3. How does the pre
race bus and truck system work?
A
- Riders must pre-register for the pre race bus and truck. Bikes will
be loaded onto trucks to be taken to the start lines in Paris and St.
George. 60 km riders must have their bikes loaded into the Bike Truck
by 8:30 am. Buses for Paris will leave Ancaster at 9am. 35 km riders
must have bikes loaded by 9:30am. The bus for St. George will leave
Ancaster for St.George at 10am. There will be no race day walkup pre
race bus service. You must have a prepaid reservation.
4.
Is the route very technically difficult?
A - No, by most mountain biker standards the route is not a difficult
technical challenge. It is a long, physically challenging and
interesting ride though.
5.
Are there maps of the route available?
A - No, we do not publish maps of the route because several sections of
the course are on private property, which we only have
permission to use on race day. To help ensure the longevity of the race
we ask that you do not trespass on other days of the year.
6.
When will the course be marked/Can I pre ride the route?
A - See #5 above. The final route is not marked until the morning of
the race. In the event of bad weather some sections of the course may
be excluded to prevent environmental damage, or detoured around downed
trees.
7.
If I can't make it to the race and I am already registered will you
mail me my t-shirt?
A - No, we will donate it for you to one of our volunteer marshaling
organizations.
8.
Can I pick up the race number and timing chip for my friends?
A - Yes, If you have signed waivers you can get all the number plates
for your group. Waivers are available via the Paris To Ancaster
Registration Page.
9.
How does your bag transfer service work?
A - In your registration kit you will recieve a tag with your plate
number on it . Attach this to a packsack or other bag containing your
after ride clothes. Put them on one of our trucks and we will transport
them from the start to the finish.
10.
Which event should I race?
A - This year we offer two great events - the traditional 60 km Paris
to Ancaster, and an expanded 35 km St. George to Ancaster event, which
follows the final 35 km of the Paris Ancaster course. The 60 km course
will have a time cut off again this year - riders must make it to the
halfway point in Harrisburg within 2 hours and 15 minutes of the start
or they will not be allowed to continue on the course. There will be a
shuttle provided to return them to the finish or start line. For this
reason we would recommend that inexperienced or first time participants
tackle the 35 km race the first year, prior to attempting the 60 km
event in a future year. The 35 km offers all the same benefits as the
60 km, including lots of fun trail riding and challenging terrain
(Jack's Dirt Chute, Charlies Farm, the Powerline Road Mud Slide,
Martins Road and the Final Killer Hill), with just a little less pain
than the full 60 km route.
11. I'm driving from some distance away to do
the event. Where can I stay nearby?
The City of Brantford has special accommodation discounts available.
